Report from the sand blaster

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Ok, so the sand plaster called me up to tell me… Get ready for it… It has rust spots going through the metal!

Let me think, a 60 year old gas pump that has never been treated nicely a day in it’s existence is bound to have some things wrong with it. The bad news is that powder coating is out. The upside is that every thing is fixable. There is still enough metal to bondo over and then paint on. I was hoping for the powder coat durability, but black is black, and I’m not going to scratch it…

The big disappointment is the front door I bought on ebay. The advertisement said no bondo, and most of the door was covered in it. That’s what I get for trying to get “cheap, and quality” parts.

At the Cleaners

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Ok so I ordered a door for the front (You will notice there was none in the other images), and a new base (the old one was useless…). They sent it to an address that I haven’t lived at for almost a year. Sorting all of that out (and paying for shipping a second time), the parts are now being sand blasted. They are going to sand blast everything, fill in the wholes and powder coat all of it black. Also they are building a fourth frame piece, because the original was as useless as the original base.

At the shop

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I have sent my truck off to a shop to be worked on (and there was much rejoice). I won’t get it back for a long while now, considering how much work must be done to it. I have an estimate to do the work required on it (That is surprisingly low). It’s a good start we will see how things go from here

Zalman Reserator Zalman Reserator Toer

I am thinking of using a liquid cooling system for this project. the Reserator looks like a good style match as well, with some modifications…

The Concept

This is the final concept for Iron horse. I’m still not sure about the mustang front end, but I know I like the truck bed.

The choosen one…

The truck I choose to work on…

This is the truck I decided to work on.

  1. It’s older (closer to breaking down)
  2. It’s worth less than $0.00 (So why not have fun with it)

The good stuff

The good stuff

Here is every thing I want to keep (minus the top dome piece). The tubes are actually brass, you can’t tell because of all the dirt on every thing. When every thing is done those brass tubes are going to shine!

The Bad Stuff

Dirty insides Junk picture-021.jpg

Here are the insides of the pump. Basically If I want to use this thing as a computer case, all of this has to go.

You can see the birds nest on the ground.

Tear Down

Working Tear Down

I’m starting to tear down the gas pump to see what I want to keep and what I want to throw away.

I’m starting to see a lot of erosion inside this thing, especially at the bottom. I found what look like three separate bird nests in this thing as well. I can’t believe that it was still pumping when I found it.
